Because all equipment is susceptible to problems. A major failure can mean hundreds – even thousands of dollars for equipment and labor plus the inconvenience and possible lost business due to downtime.

The Partner Protection Plan includes the highest level of priority service and much more. Your membership entitles you to special discounts, on-going training, phone bill analysis and other extra benefits.

Here is what one client says about the Partner Protection Plan...

"The Partner Protection Plan has also been helpful to our organization... Your staff, through the PPP, assisted us in determining the cause of the error [on their phone bill] and solving it to our advantage... That monthly savings will offset the cost of continuing the PPP and the many benefits it offers to keep us in touch with our members."
– Kim Curtis
President of the Grandview Area Chamber of Commerce

Commworld logo Daylight Savings Reminder

Time Change is Sunday, November 2nd.

It's also a good time to change batteries in smoke detectors and battery backups.

Its time to "fall back" again. The challenge is now we have to remember how to change the time on our clocks, DVD players and other electronic devices that might not do it automatically.

COMMWORLD will proactively make sure the time changes are correct on equipment covered by our Partner Protection and Current Technology Assurance Plans. You don't even need to call us. The service is included and we'll happily take care of it for you. Newer systems make the change automatically.

If you're business isn't a Plan member, you may wish to place a service order. Call one of our friendly Customer Service Reps at 816-763-1100 to place your request. There will be a charge for a Technician to make the change. If you have a voice mail system equipped with a monitor and keyboard, you may want to make the change yourself.

Safety Reminder

Don't forget to change the batteries in smoke detectors at home and in your office. It is also a good time to change batteries in any uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or battery backup system which protects and supports your phone system, voice mail or data equipment. We recommend changing the batteries every 3 years. Call us if you're due for new batteries to protect your telecom equipment.

Moses Greeley ParkerFun Phone Facts

Dr. Moses Greeley Parker (picture at right) was responsible for developing the use of telephone numbers. After graduation from Harvard Medical School, he enlisted in the Union Army to serve in the Civil War. After the war, he returned to his home in Lowell, Massachusetts and continued the practice of medicine. He was interested in progressive methods including the innovative idea of becoming a specialist. He studied and became a specialist of diseases of the eye and ear.

His fascination with innovation carried over into the fledgling telephone industry. He was a friend of Alexander Graham Bell. In 1878 when Bell first exhibited his crude version of the telephone apparatus, Dr. Parker was an interested observer. He quickly recognized the commercial value of the invention and shortly thereafter Parker built a telephone line from his home to his office about a half mile away. He became one of the largest investors in early telephone companies including the American Telephone Company and the New England Telephone Company.

Early telephone subscribers were called for by name, but as the size of exchanges grew, it became increasing challenging switchboard operators to remember the switchboard locations for all the different people. Dr. Parker feared that an epidemic in Lowell could affect its four operators and therefore could paralyze telephone service for more than 200 subscribers. He recommended the use of telephone numbers to make it easier for substitute operators to keep the system going if regular operators fell ill.

Despite this early innovation, most calls in the U.S. were connected through operators or "Central" into the early 20th century. Can anyone remember picking up the phone and saying, "Hello Central, get me Murray 549, please?"
